 The lovely island of Mallorca (Majorca) is the largest of the Balearic Islands and easily reached by ferry from Valencia. There are also many excellent and affordable hotels, apartments and villas making this an ideal destination for a holiday in the sun.
Although the island is famous for it's fabulous beaches and resorts such as Alcudia and Palma Nova, many people prefer to make the city of Palma their base and then take the bus to one of the many nearby beach resorts.
Although the island is popular for it's stunning beaches, there is another side to the island which many tourists don't know about. On the North East Coast of the island are the villages of Valldemossa and Deia and the nearby town and port of Soller.
 Poets and authors such as Robert Graves and D H Lawrence and movie stars Michael Douglas and Catherine Zita Jones have made this area of Mallorca their home. Exploring Deia, Valldemossa and SollerTake the bus from Palma bus station and you will enjoy the most amazing views on the coastal road to Valldemossa, Deia and Soller. Don't take this route if you're afraid of heights, take the inland bus route or the train to El Soller which is a lovely town with beautiful harbor about 15mins drive from Deia. There are many lovely hotels in the area and also apartments and villas.
Palma is the capital of the island and capital of the Balearic Islands. It's also where the Spanish royal family spend their annual summer vacation. Palma Spain - This very beautiful city has the most stunning marina and port plus a magical historic center full of narrow, winding streets overflowing with trendy and up-market shops, stores, restaurants and cultural attractions.
There are many historical places of interest such as the beautiful Palace of the Almudena and the lovely 14th Cenury Gothic Cathedral which majestically towers over the waterfront and marina.
Tip! It's a good idea to invest in a map so you don't waste valuable time getting lost.
Palma AirportThe city of Palma is only 8km from Palma airport and very easy to reach. Transport from the airport and from the center of town is very good.
Beach ResortsThere are many popular beach-side resorts such as C'an Pasilla, Cala Mayor and Cala D'Or and in the south-west of the island are the fun loving resorts of Palma Nova and Magaluf. On the north coast of the island is the lovely resort of Puerto Pollensa which is ideal for families and couples in search of a laid back holiday.
