The Festival of Jazz in the Jardines del Palau de la Música in July in the Turia Gardens in Valencia plays host to the greats of jazz such as Natalie Cole, guitarist Ximo Tebar and many more.

Opened in 1987 and considered one of the best concert halls in Europe.

An enormous glass dome covers the entrance and the cascading fountains rhythmically leap up and down into the pool outside.

For lovers of classical music this is a must. The program is only in Spanish but if you are a lover of music easy to understand.

The beautiful Palau de les Artes is the famous Valencia Opera House and part of the mind blowing City of Arts and Sciences.

With the most modern technology and open-air auditoriums for theater, opera and concerts, this is a major center of the performing arts in Valencia.


Benicassim International Festival

The music of Valencia Spain reflects not only the culture but also the pulsating energy of the youth of Spain.

This popular annual international rock festival is held in the costal town of Benicàssim in the region of Valencia.

The rock festival attracts some of the top names in rock and the four days of concerts and nine days of camping included in the 4-day pass, along with the weeks extra-musical activities, make for a great experience on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Traditional Music of Valencia

The music of Valencia wouldn’t be complete without the popular dances and human towers of the Muixeranga which are found throughout Catalunya and Valencia.

Folk has its roots in soul and the music of Valencia reminds me a lot of the Greek ‘Rembetika’ which has evolved into the popular sound of Greece.

The traditional regional dances of ‘La jota’ and the ‘Fandango’ are very popular and there are many recordings of this music.

These historic recordings were made by Alan Lomax whilst traveling through Spanish villages in 1952.

Valencia has it’s own national anthem and also a very famous song called Valencia.
