Happy
New Year in Valencia!

New Year in Valencia is great fun and although many people stay at home and have family parties and celebrate all night long, others go to restaurants and clubs where the New Year is celebrated in style.

The Spanish are well known for their love of festivals and at this time of the year they really let their hair down!

New Year's Eve in Valencia

Live shows and flamenco singers are the norm with the traditional dishes of seafood washed down with bottles and bottles of delicious sparkling Spanish cava.

Many places in Valencia have New Year events and a great place to go around midnight is Plaza del Ayuntamiento as there's a huge firework display to bring in the New Year.

At the stroke of midnight everyone in Spain has twelve white grapes and on each stroke of the clock a whole grape must be eaten (that is, if you want to be lucky for the coming year!).

The feasting and fun goes on until la madrugada (early morning) and is finished by taking the traditional chocolate y churros before going to bed.

Kings Day in Valencia

kings day in spain

A few days after the celebrations of New Year is the festival of the Three Kings Day.

A wonderful day for all children in Spain as this is the traditional day for children to receive Christmas presents.

On the 6 January (the day of Epiphany and Twelfth Night) the Three Kings brought gifts of Frankinsense, Gold and Myrrh to the baby Jesus - Kings Day in Valencia

As there is so much happening over the holiday period this is a great time to visit Spain.
