Live the dream and work in Spain! If you want to escape the gloomy grey skies of northern European countries then Spain is the ideal place to go. Although wages are normally lower than those in northern European countries, working in Spain is the dream of many.
The cost of living is much lower (especially in Valencia), and quality of life is higher. It isn't very surprising that many people want to quit their 9-5 jobs and work in the sun!
The majority of qualifications from EU countries are recognized in Spain and in the coastal south, Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia, many UK workers are already enjoying a better quality of life.
In Spain there's also the advantage of many national holidays and a more laid back attitude to life.
In most places of work (other than large department stores such as El Cortè Ingles), they close for the obligatory siesta for a few hours between 2.00 - 5.00pm and re-open until 8.00pm. Work permits are more or less automatic for EU residents but if you're not from an EU country check what you need to do. Most people want to know they can be sure of getting a job they really like and there are many agencies and ways of finding excellent jobs in Spain.
Educational standards are very high and medical & recreational facilities are excellent so... another good reason to work in Spain. So, if you just want to dip your toe in and give it a trial run a good way to start is by teaching English (TEFL).
