There are so many cheap Valencia restaurants and the majority are incredibly good value for money.

The Old Quarter of Valencia is literally overflowing with tapas bars, cafes, horchaterias and restaurants.

The following are just a few of the many wonderful places you will find here.

Los Toneles

The first time we went to this cerbezeria (beer taverna), it was bucketing down with rain so we had no choice but to take shelter inside and we enjoyed a very tasty three course meal.

This  is one of the most popular cheap Valencia restaurants and has been going strong for around 60 years. Located directly opposite the bull ring, the service is extremeley good, locals love it and the calamari and beer are delicious.

The horchateria was founded in 1836 and is famous for its ice-cold (and very healthy) milky Valencian drink made from tiger nuts which is called horchata.

A must to have with this drink are fartons (yes, you heard right) – similar to long iced buns.

Another must which everyone in our family loves is the ever popular chocolate and churros. Thick chocolate drink in which you dunk churros (similar to a long donut) – truly delicious!

This is one of the most popular cheap restaurants in the Barrio del Carmen.

Famous as the mussel-eaters cathedral with a great variety of tapas.


San Jaume

Also in Barrio del Carmen is the popular San Jaume which is ideally located in one of the most popular and trendy streets in Valencia.

With a terrace where you can have your drink and watch the world go by this is a great place to undwind and enjoy a meal.

There are also many upmarket bars and clubs as this is where some of the best nightlife is in Valencia.

This is an excellent place to wine and dine and one of the best restaurants.

Vintara’s has the best of both worlds. It’s a really great place to eat with a terrific atmosphere and a good menu.

Some years ago we enjoyed a delicious seafood paella at the front of the restaurant whilst watching a nineteen year old Rafael Nadal on TV in a relaxed and very chilled atmosphere.

It’s based on two floors and overlooks Plaza del Ayuntamiento/Plaça de l’Ajuntament.

It’s a popular cheap Valencia restaurant which offers an assortment of sandwiches, salads and burgers.

A huge board above the bar lists the various tapas and they all come served with mountains of crisps.

Washed down with wine, cold beer or an iced-coke… delicious.

When  ordering just tick off what you want on a pad (on each table) and the waiter/waitress will tear off your order.

If you’re inside they call you when it’s ready or bring your order to you outside.

Very laid back, very enjoyable and right next door to the beautiful La Fonda restaurant.

Healthy Japanese and South Eastern Asian food at excellent prices.
3 course lunch menu at 10 euros and it’s open all day from midday to midnight.
