Valencia is overflowing with culture and life and has more than it’s share of festivals which include live concerts, music, sports, fashion shows and lots more.

As well as the local festivals there are many art galleries and museums to visit.  The stunning City of Arts and Sciences can be found at the end of the Turia Gardens which are a short distance from Valencia city beach. The gardens stretch for 7km through the center of the city , they are the location of many festivals and events during the year  and  it’s also a great place to take a stroll,  go  jogging,  ride a bike and playing sports.

MotoGPThe annual MotoGP is held at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Cheste which is just a short drive from the center of Valencia.

Don’t forget  – 1 November is All Saints’ Day and a public holiday in Spain.

DANCING-Plaza-de-la-Virgen-2-300x225Amongst the many events during the month of October is the National Day of the autonomous region of Valencia,  and Sant Donis Day, patron saint of lovers .  This two day event starts on 8 October and is celebrated in style with music, dancing and firework displays.

mercadocentralinvalenciaspainLast year Bonica Fest attracted 50,000 people from all over Valencia.  Municipal markets open at night not just to offer food, but also activities and music.

Mercat Central (Mercado Central) is the center of the event but  there are 14 others participating  in Torrefiel, Natzaret, el Grau, Cabanyal and Patraix.  Stall owners serve their most original tapas at  very reasonable prices. Entrance to the markets is free.

The  annual funfair and Ferris  will be in the Turia Gardens alongside a host of other exciting events in Valencia.

With many open air concerts in the Viveros Gardens and a program of events closer to the time. The Summer Festival of Films is held at the foot of Palau de la Musica with open-air screenings in the city and beaches of Valencia.

Valencia Events May 2017

plaza del lavirginMother’s Day is always celebrated on the first Sunday in May in Spain,  so it’s easy to remember.

On the 3 May is the “Crosses of May” and on the second Sunday in May  it’s  the festival of Our Lady of the Forsaken (Virgin of the Helpless), Patron Saint of the city of Valencia.  The Valencia Book Fair is usually held during this month in the lovely Viveros Gardens.

valenciabridgeEaster week in Valencia is followed with the festivals of San Vicente Ferrer, on the second Monday after Easter. In the Turia Gardens there are races and the annual Valencia Book Fair is held in the Viveros Gardens.

This year Easter in Spain (Pascua) is on 17 April 2017. This is a lovely time to visit Valencia as there are many open-air bars and restaurants to enjoy.
