Peniscola

Peniscola is a very pretty fortress town with an amazing castle called Papa Luna Castle which is also famous for being used as the backdrop of the 1960s film El Cid which was filmed here.


During the summer the town hosts events such as the popular International Festival of Cinema Comedy.


Another famous event is the International Festival of Ancient and Baroque Music and the traditional Moros y Cristianos - (Moors and Christians).


The festival is held against the backdrop of the impressive Papa Luna castle which is also used for summer exhibitions and activities.


The north of the town has sandy and rocky beaches and a pretty marina with a variety of cafès, restaurants and shops.


The south coast of town is full of lovely tiny coves.


The coves are perfect for scuba diving and fishing and the area is surrounded by the magnificent Sierra d'Irta mountain range.


This is one of the most beautiful towns in Castellon Valencia and well worth visiting.
