National Day of the Region of Valencia & San Dionisio Day
There are two celebrations on the 9 October – National Day of the Region of Valencia and San Dionisio Day (Lovers Day in Valencia).
The event begins on 8 October with a concert at the Palau de la Música and fireworks on the Paseo de la Alameda.
On the big day 9 October are several events which begin with the civic procession honoring the Senyera and mascletà in Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
The day ends with dancing in Plaza de la Virgin and more fireworks.
San Dionisio Day is the eqivalent to Valentine’s Day and to celebrate this very romantic day, Valencianos give colored marzipan ‘mocadorades’ to those they love.
Today is a public holiday and most shops are closed.

The TENNIS OPEN 500 tournament at the City of Arts and Sciences.

As usual all the top boys will be playing here. Last year Nadal flew in from Mallorca to bid farewell to former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero on his retirement from the game.
Spanish tennis player David Ferrer won the singles in 2012 so who will it be this year!
