PAELLA

Traditional Spanish Food!

Paella - National Dish of Spain!

This popular dish originates from Albufera just a short journey from the center of Valencia. This is where the rice fields of Valencia are.

One of the best places to enjoy this tasty dish is at one of the lovely restaurants which line the beaches of Valencia City.

Families often cook this dish on Sundays when the family are together or for special occasions.

Valencia is known as the 'Land of Flowers, Light and Love' and it's also famous for the vast orange groves where the famous Valencian oranges are grown. When cooking this dish it's customary to use orange and pine branches for fuel.

The famous Valencian author Vicente Blasco Ibáñez reflects about the area of Albufera and the lives of local people during the 18th century in his novel Cañas y barro.

In present day Valencia ingredients for this famous dish include chicken, rabbit, butter beans, runner beans, tomatoes, garlic and the infamous saffron which gives it that very special taste.

There are a variety of dishes which always include an ample supply of seafood as all coast towns and villages in Spain do. One of the most popular ingredients still used today are eels which the Albufera is famous for.

The Catalan word for frying pan is derived from the old French word which is the name of this popular dish.

Sueca Paella Festival

Famous since the early 60s the festival takes place in the town of Sueca in the South of Valencia during the first fortnight in September. Spanish festivals wouldn't be complete without marching bands, fireworks and popular Spanish foods such as the traditional dish of Spain which everyone enjoys.
