A point worth remembering is that a hostal in Spain is a hotel/ guest house and a hostel is a youth hostel. Some hostels in Valencia are more like guest houses and some have private rooms for 2 or 3 people. Many even have their own bathrooms but most share all the facilities including kitchens, living rooms and so on. Most of the hostels in Valencia are situated in the center of the city and offer all the facilities you'll need to have fun and enjoy yourself. If you're coming for La Tomatina or Las Fallas it's always best to book well in advance as rooms get full-up very quickly. Barrio del Carmen is a great place to stay as it's a very hip and trendy area in the north east of the Old Quarter of Valencia.
Venecia HotelTip! - The 2 star Vencia hotel is in a great location overlooking Plaza del Ayuntamiento. The rooms are modern and comfortable and there's a great buffet breakfast which you can enjoy in the breakfast room overlooking the square. There are also apartments in Valencia which if shared can work out quite good. The number 32 bus will take you to the beach or you can take the tram from Pont de Fusta - Bridge of Fusta - (opposite Serranos Towers in Barrio del Carmen) directly to the beach. There are many great places to eat and Mercado Central in the Old Quarter is a great place to stock up with fresh and very inexpensive food. You'll also find many supermarkets in the centre of Valencia such as the popular Consum and Mercadona. The department stores El Corte Inglés also have supermarkets located in the basement of their stores and there are many very affordable tapas bars and cafés in town.
