las fallasTake a walking tour of Valencia and explore the historic center of the Old Quarter. It's so small that it's easy to explore on foot.

In this magical area you are surrounded by small winding cobbled stone lanes full of gothic, baroque and modernist monuments.

The area is alive with people enjoying tapas bars, outdoor cafes and restaurants, shops and the famous Valencia Central Market (Mercat Central).

The recently renovated market was built in 1928 and is a masterpiece of modernist architecture covered with ceramics and colorful stained windows and is the oldest in Europe.

Opposite Mercado Central is the glorious 15th century indoor gothic La Lonja where the silk merchants used to exchange their goods.

The very beautiful medieval Cathedral of Valencia in Plaza de la Reina has the oldest museum in the city (Sala Capitular) which contains the Holy Grail.

Climb the 207 steps inside the El Micalet belltower which is attached to the Cathedral of Valencia and you'll be rewarded with great view of Valencia city Spain.

Close by is the Basilica of the Virgin de los Desamparados in Plaza de la Virgin (Plaça de la Verge). This is a great place to enjoy a drink or bite to eat at one of the many cafes and bars. It's also very close to the trendy and fashionable area of Barrio del Carmen.

The best place to start your walking tour of Valencia is at Plaza del Ayuntamiento as it's the center of Valencia and close to Estacion del Norte and Valencia's famous Bull Ring.
