Valencia Province ~ Region of Valencia
The Valencia region of Spain is divided into three provinces. Castellon in the north, Valencia province in the center and Alicante province in the south. The city of Valencia is the capital of Valencia province.
Valencia Province
In this area of Spain the land is very fertile and Valencia has a booming agricultural business which includes the export of Valencia oranges.
This area is known as la Huerta Valencia (the garden of Valencia)and produce is delivered to local markets including Mercado Central in the town center. The shops, restaurants, Valencianos and tourists often get their supply from here.
Valencia is also the birth-place of paella, the traditional dish of Spain. Only 12kms from the center of Valencia is the beautiful nature reserve and freshwater lagoon of l’Albufera which is separated from the sea by a thin strip of land.
This area is full of pine forests and sand dunes and where Valencia (bomba) rice is grown which is used for Paella Valenciana.
This is where you can taste original authentic Valencian food. Traditional Spanish food includes tapas and there are many of these tasty little dishes in the tapas bars of Valencia.

North of the City of Valencia
There are many lovely coastal towns such as Monte Picayo with the 5 star hotel Gran Casino Monte Picayo in the resort town of Puçol just 12km from the city.
The town of Alboraya is famous for the popular Valencian drink of Horchata which is traditionally served with fartons (long iced buns).
- If you like sailing then you’ll love Port Saplaya.
- You can moor your boat very close to your front door and the lovely port at Carraxet ravine has the Chapel of the Little Fish – (Peixets).
Nearby is the town of La Pobla de Farnals where you’ll find a lovely marina full of yachts.
A little further on (about 30km north of Valencia) is the ancient Roman city of Sagunt.
The lovely towns of Requena and Utiel are located inland and famous for their wine production .
Both towns are within easy reach of the city of Valencia with Requena being the nearest at only 65km and Utiel a little further at 73km.
There are Vineyard Tours where you can visit a bodega and doing a little wine tasting.

South of the City of Valencia
Only 12 km south of the city center is the famous nature reserve of the Albufera – (l’Albufera) and the beach resort of El Saler.
All that separates the Albufera from the blue flag beaches and crystal clear Mediterranean sea is a thin strip of land.
- The coastal towns of Oliva and Gandia are located at the southerly tip of the province of Valencia near La Safor mountains and vast orange groves of the area.
- The city of Gandia is the larger of the two with a port, harbor and golden sandy beaches full of hotels and apartments and many sports facilities.
Oliva has wide sandy beaches and a new and very old town with traditional whitewashed town houses and is located near the sand dunes and famous golf course of this lovely area of Valencia.
Balearic Islands
The beautiful Balearic islands lay of the coast of this region of Spain and are easy to reach from the city port or from further along the coast in Denia or Alicante.
There are over 500 kilometers of stunning coastline on the Costa del Azahar and Costa Blanca with some of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe.
