Valencia Region Spain

Benicasim Festival 2012

Thursday 12th July to Monday 16th July 2012

This lovely town is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea and the hills of the Desierto de las Palmas natural park.

Just 45 mins by train from the city of Valencia and by car it's about one hour.

Situated on the Costa Azahar in the province of Castellon to the north of Valencia.

The backdrop to this spectacular setting are the mountains of the Sierra d’En Garcerán. The name is of Arab origin and translates to 'Children of Casim'.

The town is famous for the yearly Benicasim International Music Festival held in July which attracts some of the top names in rock to its shores.

The four days of concerts and nine days of camping included in the 4-day pass, along with the weeks extra-musical activities make for a great experience on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Valencia Nord station - Estacion del NorteYou can get a cheap flight to Valencia and then you take a train from Valencia Nord station (Estacion del Norte) which is in the center of the city (next to the Bullring) to Benicasim.

Nearer to the time you can book online with Rail Europe.

The journey from VALENCIA NORD station to BENICASIM takes approx 45-50 mins and prices are from £16 return.

Lineup already confirmed bands are Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Portishead, The Strokes and Primal Scream.

Beaches in Bencasim

As well as the yearly rock festival this lovely town is famous for it's 6km of blue flag golden beaches include Voramar, Tunny net, San Vicente, Els Terrers and Heliópolis.

Nearby are the towns of Oropesa with fast trains to Barcelona and Valencia.

The lovely town of Peñiscola with its dramatic Luna Castle, Alcossebre and Castellón de la Plana which is the capital of the area.

The attraction of towns like this, in contrast to the Costas of southern Spain, are that the Costa del Azahar is still very Spanish.
