Picasso Exhibition at the Fundación Bancaja (Valencia, plaza Tetuán, 23)

The exhibition runs until 31st March, with more than 170 pieces, including drawings, oil paintings and prints reflect the attitude and philosophy of Picasso.

The ‘Picasso and Peace’ exhibition (Picasso y la Paz) includes a collection of different versions of the dove lithograph carried out by people with functional diversity from 20 centers in Valencia. Entry is free from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Christmas in Valencia

30 November 2018 – 6 January 2019

Every year Plaza del Ayuntamiento hosts the Christmas celebrations in Valencia .

There’s a huge Christmas tree, open air ice rink with two separate areas for adults and children, it’s open every day  from 11:00 to 23:00, except on 24 and 31 December when it will close at 20:00.

Price of tickets :  €8 for adults and €5 for children.

Note: Valencia hosts many ice skating rinks, the main ones are located in Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the Nuevo Centro Shopping Center (near the Expo Hotel), the City of Arts and Sciences, and the rink near Bonaire.


Christmas Markets

As usual there are many  Christmas markets all over Valencia selling toys, candles, crafts, ornaments and Christmas gifts. The market in the old historic town closes at 2.00pm on Christmas Eve and at 5.00pm on the night of the Reyes.

Todos Los Santos – All Saints’ Day

1 November (public holiday in Spain)

In Spain and many other countries Dia de Todos los Santos –  All Saints Day in Spain  is a  holiday of remembrance in honor of family  and friends who have died.    In  Barcelona (Catalunya),  Valencia and the Balearic Islands this day is known as Castanyada (Chestnut Day) because roast chestnuts are eaten, alongside small cakes called panellets  (little breads) made of ground almonds, sweet potato and pine nuts.

The festival of Sant Joan is held between  20 and 24 June  and coincides with the summer solstice.   Parties are held all over Spain and in Valencia the beach is full of people having fun – there are bonfires, fireworks, music and dancing.

The 23 of June is the night of Sant Joan and is the shortest night of the year.  Jumping over the bonfire a minimum of three times is considered to bring you luck for the entire year.

book fair valenciaThe Book Fair of Valencia is a celebration open to the public, and in addition to being able to buy books signed by the authors themselves, you can attend various literary acts, such as poetic readings, presentations, conferences and round tables.

The program also includes activities aimed at children and young people, such as storytellers, workshops and theater, together with a children’s library that has more than 350 titles.

Festival of Our Lady of the Forsaken

The festival is in honor of Our Lady of the Forsaken, one of the Patron Saints of Valencia.

Saturday Evening Events

8 pm ~ Ceremony for the Virgin at the Real Capilla (Royal Chapel).

11 pm Concert by the Municipal Orchestra in the Plaza de la Virgen.

Midnight (00 am) Fireworks display in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Followed by the Gran Dansà (the Great Dance) and Cantà d’Albaes (traditional songs) in honour of la Mare de Déu (with the collaboration of the Associació de Cant Valencià) in the Plaza de la Virgen.
